Hiring rooms

St Matthew's church buildings are open for all covid-secure bookings. Our rooms are well-ventilated and spacious with extra regular cleaning. Our listed victorian church has been refurbished with modern facilities and is flexible, attractive and well equipped. We've hosted a wide range of successful events and groups including: clubs and classes; dance, band or choir performances; soft play, lectures and movie nights. 

Church hall - up to 20 people seated 1-2m apart
A large open space suitable for active groups or chairs can be set out. At present we are able to seat 20 people 1-2m apart, (normally the capacity would be 70 in rows, or 48 adults and 24 children around tables). There is a smaller hall through double doors, which can also be subdivided in two, and an enclosed outdoor space with space for 20 garden chairs, partially covered by a fixed gazebo. Fully equipped small kitchen with crockery and cutlery, gas oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, hot water urn and trolley. £13/hour for regular users, (normally £24/hour for occasional use).  

Smaller room - up to 10 people seated 1-2m apart
The smaller hall
can be hired separately for discussion groups. £7/hour for regular users, (normally £12/hour occasional use).

Main church - up to 30 households seated 2m apart Attractive Victorian features and good acoustics. Modern audio-visual equipment and raised stage platforms. Padded stackable chairs which would normally seat up to 300 but currently seat 30 household groups (households ranging from 1 to 6 people). Serving area with hot water urn, sink and fridge. £30/hour for regular users, £50/hour for an event with access earlier for setting up. 

Suitable for wheelchairs and buggies, with disabled toilets and baby changing. You can download a leaflet about the building and history.

Charity policy does not permit other spiritual, political, ethical or awareness-raising activities. Please read our: terms and conditions of hire and visit during normal office hours or for Sunday church.  Please check before booking whether your activity can take place within current government guidelines which you can find by clicking here. You'll need to send us your risk assesment, ours is available here. We are not able to take bookings for social events, children's parties or meals that take place before 21st June.
